About Us

Making a splash on the music scene

The award-winning Fountain Five Wind Quintet is based in Tallahassee, Florida, and has been actively performing around the Florida panhandle since 2021. In addition to recitals and outreach performances, the group's members regularly perform with local orchestras and maintain active private teaching studios. Its members are Brenna Wiinanen (flute), Nicholas Kanipe (oboe), Connor Croasmun (clarinet), Josie Whiteis (bassoon), and Tarre Nelson (horn).

Our Story

By blending traditional and contemporary repertoire in their programs, the Fountain Five brings an exciting and engaging musical environment and connects with their audiences at every venue.

Passionate advocates for new music, the quintet seeks to commission and  perform works by emerging composers. They have been involved in premiers of commissioned works, and program underperformed pieces in addition to traditional wind quintet repertoire. They have previously collaborated with composer Dr. Tyler Taylor, premiering his arrangement of Debussy’s La Mer for quintet and piano.

The Fountain Five aims to further the accessibility of chamber music. They are actively involved in performance and educational outreach. They frequently collaborate with Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Panama City Symphony Orchestra, South Georgia Ballet, and Thomasville Center for the Arts. Most recently the quintet was awarded first place in the ensemble division of the Music International Grand Prix Competition in April of 2023.

The ensemble’s name derived from their first rehearsal, which took place around the Memorial Garden Fountain on Florida State University’s campus.
