Tarre Nelson is a hornist and pedagogue in Tallahassee, Florida. Their performances have taken them through the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Dominican Republic. Tarre is an advocate for contemporary music, performing and commissioning new works.

About Tarre

Tarre Nelson is a hornist and pedagogue based in Tallahassee, Florida. They are currently pursuing a Doctor of Music (DM) from Florida State University (FSU), where they are also a graduate assistant. They have performed throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Dominican Republic. 

 

Tarre frequently performs with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra (TSO), Panama City Symphony Orchestra (PCSO), FSU University Symphony Orchestra, and FSU Wind Orchestra. They have previously worked with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBCSSO), the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), and Ensemble Dal Niente. 

 

Tarre is an avid supporter of contemporary music. They have worked with prestigious composers such as Seung-Won Oh and Ronald Caltabiano to premier solo, chamber, and orchestral pieces. Tarre has also commissioned composers such as Hannah Barnes and Tyler Taylor to write chamber works featuring the horn. 

 

Tarre’s primary instructors include Jim Smelser, Steph Jones, Beccy Goldberg, Alberto Menéndez Escribano, and Michelle Stebleton. They have performed in master classes with renowned players such as Fritz Foss, Stefan Dohr, and Julie Landsman. They hold a Bachelor of Music (BM) from DePaul University and a Master of Music (MM) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Get to Know Tarre

Q: When did you learn to play your instrument? 

A: I started playing horn when I was 11.
